From Cracks to Completion: Hiring a Handyman for Drywall Repair and Installation

Drywall repair isn’t just about making a home look better, it’s about protecting the structural integrity of a building. If drywall cracks or holes go untreated, they may lead to further damage and costly repairs in the future. In some cases, the damage can even affect a home’s foundation. That’s why it’s important to seek professional help as soon as possible.

While many homeowners can do simple drywall repair projects themselves, hiring a Memphis drywall repair and installation services ensures that the project is completed correctly and on time. A skilled handyman will have years of experience and will be able to provide quality workmanship. Moreover, handymen will be familiar with various types of drywall materials and will know how to treat each one differently.

A variety of factors determine the cost of repairing drywall damage. The size of the hole and type of drywall will affect the price, as well as the extent of the damage. For example, repairing a large hole is much more complex than filling nail holes and requires different tools to ensure the patch blends in with the rest of the wall.

Moreover, repairing a corner crack is more complicated than a straight horizontal or vertical crack. The reason is that these cracks are more likely to indicate serious settling issues. This is because the soil under a house moves up and down depending on the water content, which can create pockets and voids in the ground. This movement can cause a house to settle and sink, affecting the entire structure of the building.

The best way to tell whether a crack is serious or not is to get a professional inspection from a reputable company. They will be able to determine the extent of the damage and recommend the best course of action. In some cases, the cracks can be repaired by applying a liquid compound to the surface and using an epoxy or urethane adhesive to seal the cracks. However, the cracks will need to be completely clean and dry before a repair can take place.

Holes and cracks in drywall are not only unsightly, but they can also be dangerous for families. These gaps allow pests, dust, and moisture to enter a room, which can increase health risks and make your home uncomfortable. In addition, cracks in drywall can lead to other issues like foundation damage, so it’s important to fix them as soon as possible.

Fortunately, the team of experienced handyman in Memphis at Home Repair Services, Inc is ready to handle all your drywall repair needs. Whether you’re looking for a quick fix or a full renovation, the team will be able to complete the job with ease and ensure that your home is safe and secure.

The Impact of Kitchen Cabinet Repainting on Interior Design

Kitchens are a living space where homeowners can showcase their preferred textures, colors, and designs. One powerful way to elevate your kitchen is by repainting cabinets, which makes a dramatic visual impact that aligns with current design trends and boosts home value. Here are some benefits of cabinet painting restoration:

1. Achieve a Modernized Look at an Affordable Price

New cabinet doors and hardware can add up to half the cost of a full kitchen remodel. Cutting costs here can help you save money for upgrades elsewhere, such as new countertops or appliances. Additionally, choosing to reface your cabinets with durable thermofoil laminate rather than solid wood or veneer saves material resources and uses an eco-conscious manufacturing process.

2. Reduce Waste and Environmental Impact

Cabinet refacing is a green remodeling choice that significantly reduces construction waste by preserving existing cabinet boxes. Additionally, it saves energy use by avoiding the need to manufacture new cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Cabinet refacing also allows you to keep your favorite features, such as natural wood or unique hardware, while updating the overall style of your kitchen.

3. Minimize the Visual Heaviness of Upper Cabinets

For smaller spaces, large expanses of upper cabinets can overwhelm the room. If you want to minimize this effect, paint your upper cabinets a light color and lower cabinets a dark shade. This will make the lower cabinets less dominant, allowing the rest of your décor to shine.

4. Extend the Life of Your Cabinets

A well-executed cabinet painting project protects your cabinets from natural wear and tear, moisture damage, and mold. This extends their lifespan, saving you from future renovation expenses and making your home a more attractive prospect for prospective buyers.

5. Stand Out in the Real Estate Market

Whether you choose to reface your cabinets or opt for a fresh coat of paint, both options are a great way to elevate your kitchen and increase your property value. A newly painted cabinet will immediately stand out in the real estate market and attract a wide range of buyers. Additionally, a kitchen with restored cabinets will show potential buyers that you care about your home and are committed to its upkeep, which is a plus in the competitive housing market.

6. Avoid the Deforestation of New Materials

Replacing your cabinets requires the harvesting of raw materials, including trees, to create the material used for new cabinet construction. This contributes to the loss of biodiversity and exacerbates climate change. In contrast, refacing your existing cabinets with environmentally-conscious materials such as durable and recyclable thermofoil laminate or real wood veneer eliminates these harmful impacts.

If you’re ready to breathe new life into your kitchen, cabinet painting is a cost-effective and eco-friendly option that allows you to upgrade your countertops and backsplash, purchase high-end appliances, or even change your flooring. By minimizing construction waste, conserving energy, and protecting the natural environment, cabinet repainting is a wise investment that will enhance your home’s aesthetics and boost its resale value. How to properly install and uninstall bathtubs

Bathtubs are heavy items and removing them from their existing homes can be a challenging task. However, with a little know-how, you can safely and efficiently remove an old tub and install your new one without any additional cost or damage.

Before attempting to remove the old bathtub, make sure that it is fully disconnected from all of its water and drain lines. After that, have a helper take the tub by its flange and gently begin to pull it away from the wall. You may need to wiggle it back and forth as you pull it. Once it’s loose enough, use a pry bar to remove the remaining screws and nails fastening it to the wall. For more information about tub installation, Bathtub Installation Sacramento can help you process with everything you need.

When you’ve got the tub completely free, use a level to ensure that it is perfectly horizontal. Once it is, mark the wall where the top of the new bathtub will fall (or the rim). Make note of that location so you can easily attach the tub surround to it once it’s set down.

While you have the tub removed, clean the floor around it to make sure it’s free of mold and other debris that could be trapped underneath the tub. Also, at this point, you should patch the floor as needed to prepare it for the new tub.

If your old tub was not installed properly, the back wall where the flange is located should be framed to support the new tub. Make a mark on this wall at the top of the ledge where the new tub will rest, and then cut a 2×4 down to size to fit on the back wall (Photo 1). This will be called a stringer board and it will be used to support the new tub (Photo 2).

You will now need to screw this piece of framing into the studs that are holding the ledge where your new tub will be sitting. Use 2” coated exterior construction screws to do this. Before you attach this, check your tub manufacturer’s instructions for any nuances that may apply to the installation of their particular model (Photo 2).

Once the stringer is in place, go ahead and screw the new tub surround to it. Before you do, run a bead of clear or colored silicone caulk on the ledge of the tub where it meets the tile and push it into the gap. This will create a rubber seal and help to prevent the tub from moving on its own over time.

Once the caulk is dry, have a helper lift your tub by its flange and lower it to the floor. At this point, it’s a good idea to have your helper try running a full-water test to make sure that the new drain seals properly. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to re-caulk that area and double-check the drain.
